Anacostia Park Near Washington DC

Your Ad Here After staying at a BUSY walmart last night, we packed up and headed for a quiter place where Tigger could get some exercise. After some googling, we ended up at Anacostia Park right on the river near DC.

It’s a bit neglected but still presentable.

It’s a BIG park with some really cool features. Here’s one… It’s a giant map of the USA made out of thin strips of wood and laid into the ground. It’s probably for kids to learn more about our country. Looking at it, I was amazed at how much work it took to make this thing. WOW. You can make out Florida in the right center of the picture. California (where I’m headed) is way over on the left side of the pic.

This is called the Urban Tree House for some reason? I guess it is a couple inches off the ground but it sure isn’t in a tree.

The coolest thing here is the HUGE indoor/outdoor FREE skate park. Looking at it, I bet it was made back in the late 70’s or early 80’s when roller skating was a pastime that many people enjoyed. In the 1990’s roller skating was all but gone. Inline skating was the next big craze. I imagine you could do both in this cool skating park.

Here’s a quick video. It’s chilly so no one is skating today. They even had the music playing.

  1. That Park looks like it might have been the hip place to be back in the 70's and 80's with the skate park. I was half expecting to hear some disco music. Stay warm.

  2. Rene, I agree. It looks like we could have grooved there instead of that place in westbrook Maine!
